Hello, my name is Maryam Al Shamsi; I am from the UAE. I graduated from HCT with a bachelor of early childhood education in 2013. My teaching experience was in KG which was not for long time; I just have six months experience in KG classes. During 2014, I moved to higher education to work as teacher assistant in HCT. After that, I graduated with master of science instructional technology from NYiT in 2018. Meanwhile, I become a lecturer on 2018. Recently, I doing my Ph.D. at BUiD.
The story of being a teacher started when I was a little child, and this dream grow with me till I make it real. Teaching plays an enormous role in our world. Delivering the knowledge to people is not an easy job but it is important to change the world to become a better place. Especially, with technology that can be done easily by using different devices such as computer and mobile devices. Teaching adults is so different from teaching children. I started shadowing professor who teaching adults since last May 2014. I did small tasks for the student teachers and advised them. During this time, I used technology such as computer and iPad to access videos, PowerPoints and websites. It helps me a lot to illustrate the content for my students. I believe that technology is very useful way to deliver the content to adults.
The environment can be as a third teacher. The best learning environment is the one that it supports the students to match their job needs and development. Creating an environment that based on learning by doing, ZPD, and technology-rich environment can lead to motive students to learn and develop. I believe that scaffolding is one of the best ways to raise students’ levels and knowledge smoothly because scaffolding build students’ knowledge from low to high level. I can scaffold students by questioning them, let them try and think, instead, giving them the answer immediately.
Every student is unique and different so faculty may need to use many different strategies to adjusting the content or use differentiating instruction based on students’ abilities. Therefore, students will get best learning experiences and improve their understanding and development. Personally, I use eight steps to do that which illustrated on the chart below:
